    Wow what a great product… I can get this to practice the angle of the straight razor and then switch to a more uniquely skilled straight razor. Thanks for the video this really opened my eyes.

    I like :)

    @dkoll72 This is actually the razor I use. I’ve only been doing this for a little over a month and basically wanted a “starter” razor in case I ended up chickening out and not sticking with it. Down the road I’m probably going to get a Feather, but overall once I got the hang of it I’ve had no problems with this razor.

    Are you Irish? Cuz you have a badass Irish accent

  5. dkoll72 says:

    @harrowrudeboy lol yes… I got the hang of it now, I was using the wrong angle before it was my first time shaving with a straight edge.

    I just straight shaved for the first time last night. Conquered about 70% of the shave with my Parker SR1 and finished with my safety razor.

    Trouble spots: Chin, Under the nose, Adams apple. I have a very pronounced chin and Adams apple. Anyone have advice on maneuvering blade, or skin stretching techniques for those areas?

    Also, used Proraso soap and it seemed to dry out very quickly. Am I not using enough water, or too much soap?

    Thanks for all the posts Geo! You really inspired me to do

    I have been using one of these Parker’s for about two years. They are excellent! The razor itself is inexpensive, but well-made. I recall I paid about $15 for mine. Much better deal than the Dovo Shavette, which costs about $34. And the Parker is heavier with a much better feel in my hand. Works for me!

  9. harrowrudeboy says:

    @dkoll72 did you put a blade in it?

    I fast forwarded thru your video initially and didnt catch your USMC shirt. However when you where shaving and said oblique i had a major final drill flashback, all i could think of was do i have to go right or left oblique,crap now im gonna get eaten by my senior and heavy,lol.
    Love the videos brother,im just learning this art and buying my first set of gear to get it all done. Ill be supporting your store and paying it a visit to get my stuff. Thank you for the time you invest in these videos.

    @geofatboy Not tried any yet. Purchased a couple of Parkers the other day with a selection of blades. Gave one to my dad for his b-day and the other is mine as soon as he makes up his mind which one he’d like! Thanks for all your tips.

    If your beard is prepared properly, you may just need to work on achieving the proper angle.
    Start on the cheeks where it’s easiest.

    No, haven’t gotten my hands on a Miraki yet….
    Do you prefer it to the Dovo and Parker model Shavettes?

    @kitasaunders
    So, how did it work out for you?

    When learning anything new, persistence is key…
    Don’t give up after one try!
    The Reward is in having mastered it….
    You just need to work on the proper angles.

    Hey Geo,
    I shaved with this razor a few times and i was disappointed to see that it would not cut ANY of my whiskers even shaving against the grain. After seeing you shave with this i dont understand how you were able to do it. btw im not new to shaving i regularly shave with a slant bar with feather blades however i am new to shavette and/or straight razor shaving

  17. ldexterldesign says:

    @geofatboy Did you try the Miraki yet? How does it compare to the Feather and Parker? Cheers.

    After toying with the idea of buying a straight razor and wondering what to buy for a beginner, will i take to it, what if i cant master the stropping and honing ect ect and genrally doing my head in i decided to try the parker one you just used first as its a cheaper option and hopefully give me an insite into straight razor shaving.
    Great vid by the way mate and you make it look so easy Lol.

    Just ordered a Parker. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

    So I’ve been shaving with a DE safety razor for several months now and decided to get one of these. All I gotta say is RESPECT because this is not as easy as you are making it look. I mean I did my cheeks just fine but when it came to the jawline…I just had no idea how to go about it! Finally I cut myself and said screw it and went back to my merkur long handle to finish up.

    You’re off to a good start.
    Stay with it and each shave will be better than the previous one.
    You will hone your skills and technique with practice and perseverance.
    Geo.

    Grand Dad would be proud!

  23. laughinggravy says:

    @geofatboy I took the plunge his evening with have a Detby Extra in it (decided to leave the Feathers out of the equation for now), and ended up doing my whole face- I was also using an unfamiliar shaving cream, which probably wasn’t wise (didn’t like it too much either – lucky it was just a free sample!). Not a perfect shave, but no cuts or nick, which was a result. Did a second pass with my faithful 34c afterwards to clean up the bits I missed!

  24. laughinggravy says:

    @geofatboy
    Strangely enough, I had that same ‘men have been shaving this way for hundreds of years’ thought yeasterday at work. I know my Grandad used a cut throat himself, but he was dead before I was born, and my own dad never took it up himself, so I have to learn the hard way! :)

  25. geofatboy says:

    @laughinggravy
    Any sharp open blade against your skin (shavette or traditional straight) presents the possibility of nicking or cutting yourself…..
    But, men have been shaving this way for hundreds of years.
    So it’s not rocket science…..
    Practice a few times and you’ll get the hang of it.
    Geo.
